Day 164 – Mungo National Park

Mungo – Home of Mungo Man & Mungo Lady I spent a night in Mildura, deciding to splurge on a pizza. As usual I found myself disappointed with the large chain stores attempt at creating a gourmet pizza. Even the chocolate pudding for desert was tasteless. I appreciate more the simple foods I’ve been eating to save money, recently rediscovering …

Day 84 – Kosciuszko NP

From Canberra I headed south to Cooma. The last big town before heading off into the wilderness of Kosciuszko national park. The park has major bitumen roads running throughout so the drive in was quite comfortable. My first camp was at Denison campgrounds. All campsites are free in Kosciuszko which was a bonus. I followed a dirt track down to …

Day 76 – Blue Mountains

blue mountains

I continued on heading to the Blue Mountains. I didn’t see or achieve much on my first day as I was exhausted from the previous nights sleep. I camped at a free camp in a picnic area carpark next to a road in a forestry area. The site had been recently logged so the wind howled through the area, plus …

Departing Lithgow I head back towards the Blue Mountains. On the Great Western highway I see a turn off for Jenolan caves so decided to check it out. Lithgow has a history of building rifles for our military over the years. This includes our current service rifles the Steyr and Minimi. Plenty to see including some …

Day 71 – Glow Worm Tunnel Wollemi NP

glow worm tunnel

Arriving in Lithgow with bad weather looming I took the opportunity to head out to Wollemi National Park to the glow worm tunnel. This is about a 1 ½ hour drive along a rough gravel track really only suitable for 4wd or high clearance vehicles. The track had thousands of rain filled potholes.. it felt like I was on a …

Day 64 – Sydney

I return to Sydney to the Expedition Centre for two days of filming and some minor servicing of my vehicle. I shot a video on the pop top conversion for Defenders. An awesome conversion that I would love for those rainy days at camp. An old friend from highschool hosted me for the week at Bulli, about an hour south …

Day 60 – Dorrigo National Park

dorrigo national park

I depart the town of Dorrigo and take a short drive down the road to Dorrigo national park. The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is the starting point of many of the bushwalks. The centre has a pretty decent gift shop and café. The Skywalk is just out the back.. probably a little overrated for what it is. Still nice to stand …

Day 59 – Cathedral Rock National Park

While travelling towards Dorrigo I decide to stop off at Cathedral Rock National Park. The track in is gravel suitable for 2wd access during dry weather. I felt up to doing a hike so chose the Cathedral Rock track, a 5.8km loop through sub-alpine woodland. The final 400 metres was rock hopping up to the very top. I then continued …
