One of my subscribers in Sydney told me about a facebook group for Land Rover Defender owners in the Sydney region to get together and do weekend trips. Was just my luck I was in town for the right weekend. A trip was planned and I was able to go along.
Four Defenders turned up at Lithgow McDonalds for the 3 day trip through Bathurst, Hill End, Sofala and Turon. It was a lovely change from the last 2 months travelling solo. The area’s surrounding Hill End are filled with gold mines. We did a tour of one and tried our hand at panning for gold. I managed to get a few specs to keep. Probably only worth 5 cents.
Got the Defender wet again in Turon River national park. Took the opportunity to give it a wash down in the creek.
In Gardens of Stone NP I drove through a mud hole and copped a decent ding to my rear fuel tank. Thankfully no leaks.
Returned to camp the night in Turon River NP. It began raining during the night so broke camp in the morning as if the creeks rose I could be stuck there a while. I headed to Lithgow to wait to the weather gets better.
Special thanks to Adam for leading the trip and providing me with some of these photos.
