My original Land Rover rear brake/tail lights had did it again!.. the bulbs rattled loose leaving me with only one. I actually had 1 fella pull up beside me and yell out as he passed by. 3 times I replaced the rear lamp units hoping that I could buy higher quality made versions to solve the problem and yet to no avail. A great way to waste $100. Then the idea hit me to upgrade my Defender to LED lights! Ebay again came to the rescue and I found a good priced unit direct from the UK with reasonable shipping. RDX LED standard looking lamps. How sweet they are too!
Installation was easy. And the light output of these fully sealed units is incredible. I drove around the first few nights worrying I was blinding the people pulled up behind me.. seeing I was lighting up their bonnet! And yet the led’s from memory were 1W for the parkers and 2w for the brake lights.
Full kits are available, however none of my other bulbs have had the same problem. So for now I’ll keep my coin for my trip and upgrade as the housings wear out. At least now I can drive the millions of corrugations with confidence that I’ll still have brake lights when I drive in to the next town.
Defender LED lights.. DO IT!
